THE HISTORY OF THE RUSSIAN COSTUME

The Russian costumes of the former times are scarcely ever worn today though they serve a source of inspiration to many a fashion designer throughout the world.

The industrial development of the 20th century had put its impact on the fashion designs introducing new technologies and materials.

Yet the motifs of the older days, the best traditions of style and form are often used by modern designers to diverse and make especially picturesque and luxurious their top fashion creations.

This tour gives an opportunity to trace the history of the Russian costume back to the old times, and enrich visitors with new ideas of clothes design, embroidery, and lace work.





The program of the tour:

Day.1     Arrival in St.Petersburg. Check-in.

Day 2Breakfast. Sightseeing tour of the city. Lunch at the hotel. The tour of the Museum of Ethnography, followed by a museum expert's lecture on the history of the national clothes, head-dress, hairstyles, etc. of numerous peoples populating Russia. Dinner at the hotel. Evening theatre performance. 

 
Day 3Breakfast. Tour of the Hermitage Museum's highlights, including exhibition of fabrics and jewelry. Lunch at the hotel. Visit to a Fashion Studio. Dinner at the hotel.

 
Day 4Breakfast. Trip to Pavlovsk for the tour of the Russian Emperor Paul's Palace conducted by a museum curator. The tour includes visiting the unique exhibition of costumes and personal belongings of the members of the Tsar' family. Lunch at the Podvorye Russian restaurant. Proceed to Pushkin for the tour of the Catherine's Palace. Dinner at the hotel. A concert at the Philharmonic Hall.

 
Day 5Breakfast. Trip to Petrodvorets, the former Tsars' summer residence, for the tour of the Grand Palace. Welcome cocktail in one of the parlors of the Palace. Tour of the exhibition of personal costumes and belongings of the Russian Tsar Peter the Great and the Russian Empress Catherine the Great. Lunch (or barbecue, in summer, in the Alexandria park). Tour of the Cottage museum conducted by guides dressed in the authentic 18th century costumes. Dinner at the hotel.

 
Day 6Breakfast. Tours of the St. Isaac's Cathedral and the Peter & Paul Fortress. Visit to a fashion studio for a fashion show. Lunch at the hotel. Meeting managers of the boutique stores. Shopping. Dinner at the hotel. Evening circus performance.

 
Day 7Breakfast. Visit to the Fur Modeling Factory. Fashion show of the new fur articles. Visiting a fur clothes store. Lunch at the hotel. Visiting a hairdresser's parlor. Farewell dinner at the Troika restaurant known for excellent Russian specialities and show. 

 
Day 8Breakfast. Transfer to the airport. Departure.
