With its population of 12 thousand citizens only, this is one of the country's most popular tourist centers, a real pearl of the Golden Ring travel itinerary.

It was the capital of the mighty principality of Nizhny Novgorod and Suzdal (the first half of the 14th century), but together with Nizhny lost afterwards its independence and became a part of the Moscow principality(1392).

There are more than 200 monuments preserved in the city.
