Ostankino
Once the estate of the counts Sheremetyev, Ostankino is a remarkable late 18th century architectural and park ensemble on the north side of Moscow.
Its main attraction is the Ostankino palace, built in 1790-98 by F.Kamporezy and P.Argunov for Nikolay Sheremetyev, one of the richest Russian aristocrats and the famous patron of arts. Designed in refined classical style, the palace is noted for the theatre, built by Sheremetyev for his troupe of serfs. In 1918 the palace became a museum, in which the works of art created by serfs, paintings and furniture are displayed.
